HIV baby infected in womb is in long-term remission

The US government is sponsoring a study to test early treatments in babies born with HIV. In this context, HIV-infected mothers recive antiretroviral therapy during pregnant because reduces the chances of them to passing on the virus to their babies. But, in that case, an american girl, now three, that was treated with aggressive cocktail of three powerful aids drugs 30 hours after birth and now has remained infection-free. While the case was reported earlier this year, had no enough evidence to affirm the new discover because some doctors doubted that girl was really infected. But, a new report makes clear that the girl was efectivelly infected with virus (HIV) in the mother's womb.
While the girl is clear of virus because she shows no active infections despite stopping treatment 18 months ago, the doctors prefer to be very cautions with this theme because they haven't absolutelly certainty about rebound yet. Moreover, Even if it is possible that the girl have been cured, the cure's definition, in that case, is more complicate than other pathologies. In fact, in that case, cure could be as they do for certains cancers, where it is necesary wait at least five years to consider that a person it is free of relapse.
Despite the fact the amazing thing, the massive application of treatment is questionable, so more research is needed.
